LLANTHONY ROAD   by Richard Grosvenor.
Llanthony Road is a layout based on the Gloucester
docks complex. All the buildings have been copied from the prototypes
which can be found in the area. This view shows a class 08 shunter at
the level crossing, with some of the almost finished structures in the
background.
All of the structures on the layout have been
mocked up from card using computer aided design, and all will eventually
be scratchbuilt from plastic sheet. This picture shows various structures
under construction, such as the chapel, antiques centre and the Tall Ship
public house.
A certain amount of licence has been used with regard
to the positioning of the buildings, but it was thought that the atmosphere
of the Gloucester Docks could be better represented by using key landmarks
on a manageable footprint.
The main emphasis is on the freight traffic which
could have been seen at the docks, had it survived long enough to retain
its railway system. The period of operation will be based on three eras, 1979,
1989 and 1999, depending on the type of rolling stock 'on-scene'.
This is the first layout to be built by Richard Grosvenor,
and the baseboards are constructed entirely from plywood, with softwood
supporting legs. Originally the project was laid with EM gauge trackwork,
but as an interim period, 00 scale trackwork has been used throughout, so
that more attention can be paid to the structures.
